Wales McLelland constructed this state-of-the-art cold storage and distribution facility on 11.4 acres at the Victoria International Airport Authority lands for Sobeys Thrifty Foods. This 155,000 sq.ft. facility utilizes insulated metal panels, structural steel for the envelope, and includes a 24,000 sq.ft. freezer, a 16,000 sq.ft. cooler/future freezer and 42,000 sq.ft. of dry storage, with both Dry and Cold Docks, with a total of 30 loading bays. There is a ground floor office hub plus a 6500 sq.ft. mezzanine for a total of 11,700 sq.ft. of office space. Sobeys mandated the project meet LEED™ requirements with efficient plumbing fixtures, using waste heat from the refrigeration system to heat the offices, water and in-floor heating and providing electrical outlets for Hybrid vehicles.
