President

Doug, a Queen’s University graduate (B.Sc. Civil Engineering 1978), joined Wales McLelland in 1990 as a senior project manager. Doug had previously spent 11 years working across Canada for a large national, heavy civil contractor and is experienced in estimating and managing construction projects ranging in value up to $100 million. Along with Sonny Wong, Doug purchased the firm in 1994, and has since become the sole proprietor.

Vice President, Development

Tony joined Wales McLelland in 2008 as Vice President of Development, prior to which, he spent 17 years in the industrial brokerage business. Tony has worked on commercial, light industrial, institutional and recreational facilities, ranging from large warehousing facilities to suburban office complexes, shopping centers and heritage buildings. Tony draws on over two decades of experience in the industry to build strong client relationships and turn development plans into a successful reality.

Vice President, Construction

Kevin Armon began his career at Wales McLelland in 1997. With over 20 years of experience in commercial, industrial and institutional sectors, Kevin has held numerous positions at Wales McLelland including: Project Coordinator, Project Manager and Senior Project Manager. In 2017, Kevin was appointed to the position of Vice President of Construction and he is responsible for leading the company's operations.

Chief Financial Officer

James joined Wales McLelland in 2018 as Chief Financial Officer and is primarily responsible for managing the Company's finances, including but not limited to financial and tax planning, management of financial risks and structuring, project economics, and financial reporting and analysis. Prior to moving into the industry, James worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for nearly ten years where he managed a portfolio of clients performing audit, review, and personal, trust and corporate taxation services largely in the PCS space.

Director of Development

Darren Sauer brings over 20 years of expertise in the construction and development industry. He began his career at Wales McLelland, where he served as Project Coordinator and later as Project Manager from 2008 to 2013. Following this, he held a Senior Manager position with a prominent industrial and residential real estate developer until 2019, specializing in land development, including master-planned business parks, project approvals, and overseeing site preparation and servicing.

In 2019, Darren rejoined Wales McLelland, where he focuses on collaborating with clients and project stakeholders to lead the project initiation, development services, and preconstruction stages prior to construction. He also holds an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University.

Director of Operations

Ash joined the Wales McLelland team in 2022 as Director of Operations and brings over 25 years of experience in project management, operational efficiency, and business development while successfully leading high performance teams in planning and executing major project portfolios in the commercial, retail, education, healthcare, industrial, hospitality and institutional sectors. Ash is equipped with lean project management skills, as well as a strong personal network of industry and trade professionals, ensuring efficient project delivery and client satisfaction.

Occupational Health & Safety Manager

Janis joined Wales McLelland in 2009 as the financial controller and was responsible for the day to day operations of the accounting department, a position that also includes the preparation of operational and financial reporting, both internal and external. Prior to Wales McLelland, Janis held controller and senior accounting positions in several construction and engineering firms.

With her background in safety, Janis has since taken on a more prominent role as our Occupational Health & Safety Manager. Some of her key responsibilities include managing external and internal safety audits as well as aligning the strategic direction of the program with WM's business vision. Leading a safety-minded team, she has been instrumental in obtaining a COR certification for WM. Janice's OHS certifications include Canadian Registered Safety Professional, and Certified Health and Safety Consultant.

General Superintendent

Kyle started with Wales McLelland as a labourer in 1998 and has worked his way up to become a first aid attendant, carpenter, site foreman, and site superintendent. With his current role as General Superintendent, Kyle is now responsible for all WM sites, site personnel, site safety, and construction quality. He continues to have an active and involved role in all projects from the initial planning stages until hand over to the end user. His role is to ensure all site work is completed to WM quality standards and within the scheduled time frame as required by the client. He is also involved in the deficiency management program to make sure that all loose ends are tied up in an efficient and timely manner.
