Adding to Sobey’s Success
When Sobey’s was looking to expand their existing 550,000 sq. ft. storage facility, they turned to Wales McLelland to make it happen. Although the building had similarities to a previous storage and distribution project, this one required a different approach to designing a seamless expansion. The result: a new 250,000 sq. ft. space, featuring a state-of-the-art warehouse with a freezer and cooler space.
An Expansion with Everything Built In
The new Sobey’s storage area needed to meet the same demands of the business on a much bigger scale. The exterior 75-foot-high 250,000 sq. ft. facility was built using insulated metal panels and structural steel for the envelope. The interior housed a 97,000 sq. ft. freezer, a 135,000 sq. ft. cooler, and an ambient area with both dry and cold docks, totalling 58 loading bays. It also included a ground floor office hub of approximately 18,000 sq. ft, which connected the new and the existing building at the main entrance. Expanding the Sobey’s warehouse involved a custom approach that resulted in a seamless addition to the original building. Plus, it featured innovative designs specifically suited to cold- and dry-storage facilities.
